4 MEET RECORDS BROKEN!

Jessica Yates of Snohomish smashed the meet record she set last year by almost 2 feet with a jump of 37' 6 1/2" in the Triple Jump. Jessica came in to the meet with the longest jump in the state this year with a PR of 38' 6 1/4" March 24 at the Cross State meet at Central Valley.



Anna Dailey of Garfield took 7 seconds off the Frosh Girls' 800m meet record. Anna turned in a time of 2:22.66 in a very fast field. Anna's time was the fourth fastest in the state this year, and the fastest Frosh time. Casey Warendorf of Bellevue (2:25.49) and Melissa Newton-Mora of Nathan Hale (2:28.62) also had times faster than the old meet record of 2:29.10 set by Erin Kearney of Cedarcrest last year.



Bellarmine's team of Midori Starks, Brianna Okoro, Kaycie Hutchins and Kelly Jacka took 3.66 seconds off the Girls' Varsity 4x400m Relay meet record with a time of 4:06.98. This was the second fastest time in the state this year. The old meet record of 4:10.64, set by Bellevue in 2003, was also beaten by the girls from Marysville-Pilchuck with a time of 4:07.91.



Logan Darling of Bellingham won the Boys' Varsity 300 Hurdles race and set a new meet record with a 2007 state leading time of 39.47. The old meet record of 39.5 was set by Will Miller of Cedarcrest in 1999.

The competition for the Boys' Trophy came down to the last race of the day. Going into the 4x400m Relay there were only 3 points separating Ellensburg, Marysville-Pilchuck and Eisenhower. With a lunge at the end by Cody VanDeBrake, Eisenhower won the race and the Trophy. Marysville-Pilchuck and Ellensburg, who each scored no points in the race managed to hold on to 2nd and 3rd. Garfield tied for 4th place with Woodinville with a strong 2nd place finish in the race.

Von Steinhilb, who just retired from coaching the distance runners at Eisenhower for 17 years presents the new Von Steinhilb 1600m Trophy to Abdi Hassan of Nathan Hale.

Coach Robert Price presents the George Price Memorial 2000m Steeplechase Trophy to Doug Holt of Woodinville. The trophy is named in honor of Coach Price's father who was a long time coach at Eisenhower.

On one of those beautiful sunny days Yakima is known for, competitors and fans huddle under umbrellas and tents trying to stay out of a sudden squall.
